“Conservation and structural problems of the late antique and medieval fortress “Vedritsa” in the Gradishte above the town of Tvarditsa” – Dr. arch. Prof. Milen Marinov

Late antique and medieval fortress “Verditsa” in m. The village is situated in the north-eastern part of the town. The fortress is known from the springs and its large area was important for the defence of the capital city of Tarnovgrad.
The fortress wall, built on a naturally fortified site, follows the features of the topography and closes an area of 24-25 acres.
As a result of the archaeological investigations carried out, the presence of an inner fortress wall in the highest part of the fortress – the Citadel – was established.
The rich archaeological findings prove beyond doubt that this was a brilliant Bulgarian medieval town.
