Each regional organisation operates independently while following the shared principles and working methods of the national network.

At the centre of every intervention is a mobile unit equipped with the tools and equipment needed to safeguard endangered buildings. Local owners, communities and authorities contribute according to their capacity by providing construction materials, accommodation, meals, logistical support or direct participation in the works. This collaborative approach transforms each intervention into both a practical rescue operation and an opportunity for training, community engagement and public awareness.

Since 2016, the network has carried out 122 emergency interventions on a wide variety of heritage sites, including churches, fortifications, manor houses, mills, railway stations, bridges and other historic structures.

Among the project’s most significant achievements are the creation of an effective cooperation and funding model bringing together beneficiaries, public authorities, NGOs, companies, donors and local communities, and the development of a national network of independently managed regional Ambulances for Monuments. This model demonstrates that heritage safeguarding can become a shared responsibility and a practical means of strengthening communities.

For more information: https://ambulanta-pentru-monumente.ro/despre/?lang=en

The Ambulance for Monuments aims to respond swiftly and effectively to the deterioration of Romania’s built heritage by carrying out emergency interventions on historic buildings at risk of collapse or irreversible damage.
