With the adoption of Christianity from Byzantium in 864, a comprehensive and strictly defined system for the decoration and painting of churches, known as the \u201cByzantine canon,\u201d was introduced in Bulgaria. This system transforms the interior of the church into a miniature model of the universe, where every image and scene has a precisely defined place. Windows hold significant symbolic meaning within this canon; they are the source of the living, dynamic light that brings the murals and mosaics to life.
